Hello!
I’m Heidi Castleden - Maker, Mama, Wife and founder of Castleden Co.
Creating and making has long been an integral part of my life. As a child I’d so often fall asleep to the sound of the sewing machine, only to wake up and see the dress I’d envisaged when Mum had let me choose the fabric and pattern just days before—pure magic to a little girl.
It’s this same magic Castleden Co works to recreate for all women, feel good, quality clothing & accessories you will love and wear.
Since 2014 Castleden Co has grown into a small collective of craftswomen that relies on an extended team of supporters. Along with our all important customers and stockists, we have a wonderful community of family and friends who make it all possible.
I am so thankful to each and every one of these individuals and we welcome you to join the fun as Castleden Co continues to create moments of magic.
— Heidi
The Wired Lab X Castleden Co: Charity Partnership
Inspired and connected by The Wired Lab's cultural activities, Castleden Co is paying it forward by giving back to our rural communities with a Charity Partnership.
After our team and others in our community benefited from The Wired Lab's initiatives, which provided free access to workshops for those who were drought-impacted at the time, we brought the idea for a charity partnership to the table to assist The Wired Lab to continue their programs in rural, regional and Indigenous communities.
Castleden Co has gathered a range of beautiful artisan pieces including clutch purses, tea towels, belts and t-shirts with a portion of proceeds going towards The Wired Lab. These items are now available to purchase online.
The Wired Lab is a not-for-profit cultural development company and will use the fundraising proceeds to continue to offer a range of initiatives for rural, regional and Indigenous communities that have been hugely impacted by drought, bushfires and COVID-19. These initiatives range from community collaborations, creative workshops and wellbeing programs through to live events featuring leading Australian and international artists. These activities provide much needed social connection and cultural opportunities that are specifically designed to benefit rural communities.
Castleden Co is an authorised fundraiser for The Wired Lab Culture Trust, CFN/25774.
$5 to $50 from every purchase of our specific Charity Partnership products is donated directly to The Wired Lab.
Good conscience shopping at its best!
THE WIRED LAB is an artist led organisation evolving interdisciplinary art practices in rural Australia. We create opportunities for the research, production and presentation of projects that connect international and local artists with communities in new ways. Our curated programs and projects involve artists working from a regional context whilst producing outcomes of local and global relevance. Our activities range from skills development for young people, seniors, emerging and mid career artists, to the creation, presentation, publication and promotion of new works and major live arts projects. |
Every single Castleden Co piece is 100% designed, cut, stitched and finished in country NSW. Our clothes are not just made to look great, but to be wearable, comfortable, make you feel good, and most importantly: to last. Care for your beautiful handmade clothing and it will serve you well.
Because we only ever make a handful of each design, and with a slightly different part of the print revealed in each garment, you’ll know that whatever you wear from us is entirely unique.
There’s no giant factory, no labour outsourcing or mass-produced-fast-fashion about any of our handmade pieces. When we do need to turn to third parties we do our utmost to use local and small suppliers—because without small business, things get really boring.
The vast majority of our fabrics are exclusively designed in Australia for Castleden Co. Where pre-produced fabric is used, we will source it as locally as possible or ideally use ‘deadstock’ - that’s fabrics left over from large producers, saving it being sent to landfill. This also means that high quality fabrics like silk, wool and cashmere are more affordable—if we get it cheaper, so do you.
There are often little surprises in Castleden Co clothes, such as a piece of vintage silk for pocket lining, or buttons from our cache of vintage deadstock gems. Not only are they beautiful, they reduce waste and help us tread just a little lighter on this fragile earth.
